Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is an upcoming Hindi film based on the life of Milkha Singh, a former Indian athlete. The film directed by ‘Rang De Basanti” fame director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has Farhan Akhtar playing the lead role with Sonam Kapoor playing the role of Nirmal Kaur, the athlete’s wife. The film’s screenplay is written by Prasoon Joshi. The movie is expected to hit the screens on 12th July this year.
The title of the movie has been derived from the last words of his father. “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” were the actual words Milkha Singh’s father said when he asked Milkha to save his life during the riots that took place during the partition of India.
The movie is about the fire Milkha Singh had within him - the fortitude of a man and how he attained universal acclaim despite of facing daunting odds in a country obsessed with cricket. He was deservedly christened “The Flying Sikh” by Ayub Khan the Pakistan General of that time. Through this film, director Rakeysh Mehra wants to carry this stimulating story to people and inspire them.
The movie is not about the trophies, medals and records Milkha Singh won and created, but about the legendary athlete’s undying spirit to become a respected human being striving all odds. The director confesses that making of the movie has been the most challenging affair.
The Flying Sikh has charged only Rs 1 for sharing the story of his life with the director Rakeysh Mehra.
To get into shape and attain the body of an athlete Farhan Akhtar religiously underwent a fitness regime followed by athletes for two years. He went through difficult training sessions that only sportsmen undergo. He is now as fit as sportsmen are. The promo of the film has taken everyone by surprise, the compliments that poured for Farhan Akhtar thereafter has not stopped.
Farhan Akhtar had always sported a lean look in his earlier films. He has never worked so hard on his body like he has done for playing the role of Milkha Singh.
Farhan Akhtar has been receiving great positive reaction after the release of the teaser. After all he has worked hard for long to achieve that look. There is a lot more in store to be seen yet.
The movie has been shot in Melbourne, Tokyo, Rome with most of it been shot in India. Music directors Shankar Mahadevan, Loy Mendonsa and Ehsaan Noorani have created mind-blowing songs for the film.
