FIRST PAST POST SYSTEM : First person who gets maximum number of votes is declared to be the winner. It may be possible that the total no. of votes by him may be less than combined votes of other candidates.

Although the first past post system is the most easiest way to elect the candidate but in true sense it does not reflect the will of majority .

This system of first past post was introduced in India way back and India at that time was almost consisted of majority that was illiterate, poor, And they needed easiest mechanism to establish the democratic state. This system could be easily understood by even illiterate poor people of the nation.

However, political party exploits the draw back of the ‘first past the post system’ and provides tickets to the candidate as such to cut down the vote of the rivalries and even after getting lower percentage valid votes one gets declared winner all though he does not have the majority in real.

ADOPTION OF PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION SYSTEM IN INDIA : Although proportion representation assures the majority but still there is lack of knowledge , illiteracy level in rural as well as urban India too. These people find too difficult to understand the system of proportional representation.

In order to implement proportional representation system to reform electoral process, education, proper training and high degree of awareness shall be induced to the illiterate and unaware huge population of the state.
