Indian and eurasian plate started to move towards each other some what around 50 million years ago. They are converged towards each other as a result of the area which was lying between them (tethys sea) also called geosyncline in geological term gets folded and uplifted and finally resulted into the formation of great himalayas.

FORMATION OF DECCAN TRAP: While heading towards the eurasian plate the indian plate crossed the reunion island basically a hot spot which lead to a layer deposition of the volcanic matter in the layered structure, this lead to the formation of deccan trap .

As, discussed about in both the circumstances basic principle of plate tectonic had role in the formation (movement of plates towards each other – convergent force). Hence, the concept of the plate tectonic is the sole reason behind the formation of the great himalayas aswell India’s oldest land form deccan trap .
