Sir Sydney Burrard divided the entire length of the himalayas into the following four divisions on the basis of river valleys :-

1- The Punjab Himalayas .

2- The Kumaon Himalayas. 

3- The Nepal Himalayas. 

4- The Assam Himalayas. 

Punjab Himalayas - Between Indus and Satluj (560 km long streach).

   ● RANGES- Karakoram , ladakh, Pir panjal , zasfar , Dhola dhar.

   ● Zojila pass provides an easy passage.

   ● General elevation falls westwards.

Kumaon Range - Between Satluj and Kali river (320 km long streach).

   ● Western part is known as Garhwal Himalayas,  while eastern part is known as Kumaon  

       Himalayas.

   ● General elevation is high as compared to Punjab Himalayas .

   ● Peaks -Nanda devi ( 7817 km ) Kamet , Trisul , Badrinath , Kedarnath , Gangotri are 

     important peaks.

   ● Rivers- Ganga and Yamuna .

   ● Lakes - Nainital and Bhimtal.

Nepal Himalayas - Between Kali and Teesta river (800 km long streach).

  ● Mount Everest (8,850) lies in the Nepal Himalayas.

  ● Other Important peaks - Kanchanjungha , lhotse , Makalu, Dhaula giri , Cho oya, Annapurna.

  ● Famous valley -  Kathmandu.

Assam Himalayas - Tista and Brahmputra (750 km long streach).

  ● It covers - Large part of Sikkim , Assam and Arunachal Pradesh .

  ● Peaks - Nanda Barwa, Kula kangri , Chomo lhari .
