Any substance of plant or animal origin providing us nutrition which are essential for human development. But there are many people who are unable to get food essential to their survival due to various reasons like poverty, disruption in supply chain or not having sufficient food etc. By seeing these problems, the World Bank, UN Environment Programme and UN Development Programme collectively came up with this report. The report is a collection of solutions to ensure we can feed 10 billion people by 2050 without increasing emissions, fueling deforestation or exacerbating poverty.

According to the World Resource Institution(WRI), a NGO working in the field, if we want to feed 10 billion people by 2050, then we have to work to fill 3 gaps i.e. 56% food gap between calories produced in 2010 and those needed in 2050, 593 million-hectare additional land as compared to 2010 in order to fill land gap and the expected agricultural emission by 2050 is 11-gigaton GHG mitigation gap.

How can achieve sustainable food future?

Due to rapid increase in population, the demand for food items are continue increasing. Thus world should focus on replacement-level fertility rates and it will also reduce land requirement for population and reduce GHG emission also.

Another aspect where we have to work is reducing food loss and waste and need to shift towards sustainable diets by reducing consumption of meat.

Need to increase livestock and pasture productivity.

Need to regulate over fishing and application of improved method of fisheries management.

Providing soil health card to farmers in order to enhance soil management and also use new techniques for water management.

No blind expansion of land on the cost of ecosystem.

Try to reduce green house emission from agriculture.

These solution has potential to change the whole system and world need to come together to create sustainable future for our upcoming generation.
