There are several products in the market today promising basketball players a higher jump. They call it all sorts of names such as 'strength shoe,' 'jump soles,' etc. In this article, we will look at this claim, and by the end of it, you will learn how you can increase your jumps and dunk easier.

Can Basketball Shoes Help You Jump Higher?

Recently a design label APL released a shoe which they claimed had a technology to help players jump to higher than they could have. They claimed it could increase the vertical distance by up to 2.5inches.

Based on personal research, if we speak in terms of quality, these shoes are perfect, but they don't help to jump higher.

What are These Shoes Actually Doing?

These shoes can only assist you in your jump. They are designed with tools to make your leap easier compared to regular basketball shoes. However, I wouldn't recommend that you bank on them. Firstly, you won't be allowed to wear them in a real basketball game as most leagues have placed a ban on them.

Except you are getting the shoe to help you during your practice session, nothing more. It will only amount to a waste of time on your part if you are getting it to take part in a game because you will only be allowed to use the regular shoes for the game.

Just think about it, have you seen any famous NBA or Euroleague player that wears these types of a shoe during a game? Even though the Athletic propulsion lab(APL) come up with stories like their shoes are scientifically tested, you still won't find famous players wear them.

Furthermore, these shoes are way more expensive than your regular shoes costing from 300$ and above.

Do You Plan on Getting One?

If you asked for my opinion, I would say there is no need to go for a durable, regular shoe. However, the choice is entirely yours to make. It is your money and your preference.

Regular Basketball Sneakers

I am not about to tell you that your Jordans, Curry, or LeBron sneaker will increase your lift or perform some magic. Like I have said about the specially designed sneakers, they don't. Well, they never promised that they would in the first place.

The regular basketball sneakers are designed to provide responsiveness and impact protection. They possess the technology required for cushioning. Big and respectable design brands such as Air Jordan or Nike are honest to tell you what it is designed to achieve without making bogus sales claims.

Come to think of it, if the technology as purported by APL truly works, then why haven't these more prominent brands started producing similar shoes? Well, you should consider that.

Regular basketball shoes help to protect your legs during take-off and landing. Their soles are usually springy and provide a cushioning effect. Compared to jumping barefooted, this type of shoes gives you an advantage by far.

How to Truly Increase Your Jump Height

You were considering going for a unique jumping shoe because you are probably dedicated to seeing that your jump height is remarkably improved.

You can achieve this goal, but your focus shouldn't be on what shoe to buy but how to develop your legs to take you higher. Shoes can only make you comfortable and protected from injury.

Exercise to Improve Your Jump

As mentioned already, the only way you can improve your jumps is by working on your legs, and exercising is the way to go. There are a few exercises that can make your leg muscles a little more explosive.

I have heard of workout routines that can help you achieve high jumps. The results are usually impressive as people have been said to have their  jumping height increased far more than the 2.5 inches that special jumping shoes promise.

It only required more commitment, motivation, and patience. There is no special shoe that will exempt you from a good workout program if you truly want a remarkable result.

Wrap up

As I have repeated throughout the article, there is no remarkable advantage of buying a special jumping shoe other than for the cushion and responsiveness it provides.

However, do note that this is an opinion based on hands-on practice and research. If my words are to be followed, I will say that you go for the regular shoes and practice for a few months, you will observe a remarkable difference. There are no shortcuts.
