Michael Jordan is rated as among the most distinguished players in the history of NBA even by his counterparts. He played the game for 15 seasons. Per game he earned an average score of 30.12 points when he called it a day, a record which is better than Witt Chamberlain’s score of 30.06. When he represented Chicago Bulls, he had racked up 10 scoring titles, 6 NBA Championships and the best five valuable player titles.

He has appeared on the cover page of Sports Illustrated as many as 49 times since 1983, which is another record by itself. He was nicknamed the “greatest athlete of the 20th century of North America” in the year 1999 by ESPN. He was also called “Air Jordan” and “His Airness” because of his unswerving ability to plunge the ball by jumping high from the foul line.

Among the siblings, Michael was the only one who could not hold on to a steady job, he was therefore considered to be as the less likely one to succeed in life.

Michael, the fourth child of Doloris and James Jordon sr. was born in Brooklyn, in the city of New York on 17th February in the year 1963. Doloris who worked with a bank and James Jordon sr. who worked as an equipment supervisor migrated to Wilmington in North Carolina when Michael was a toddler.

His parents instilled good habits and practices in him right from his childhood. He was taught the value of hard work by his father and was taught to clean, sew and laundry by his mother. Initially, Michael emulated his baseball crazy father who played baseball. Later, when he began idolizing Larry, his older brother that, he switched to playing basketball. At Emsley A Laney, the high school where he studied, he not only played basketball but football and baseball too. He tried to get into the varsity basketball team, but did not succeed.

In the year 1993, when Michael was at the crest of his career tragedy struck when his dad was murdered. Amidst gambling controversies and this tragedy he decided to retire from basketball. His made a comeback in the year 1995 and won against New York Nicks. He also won three consecutive NBA championships and earned for himself the title “the greatest NBA player of all times”. He announced his retirement in the year 1999 again. Although he again tried to make a comeback in 2001-02, it turned out to be a mediocre, subsequently Michael retired for good.

During his career as a NBA player he was part of the American Basketball team twice which won gold medal in the Olympic Games.
