In a landmark move aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced that Class 10 board exams will be held twice a year starting 2026.
This historic decision, confirmed on June 25, 2025, is being hailed as a student-friendly reform aimed at reducing academic stress and providing flexibility and second chances.
Starting with the 2026 academic batch, Class 10 students will get two chances to appear for their board exams:
โ First Attempt: Mandatory
๐ Second Attempt: Optional – for students who wish to improve their scores
This move is a game-changer for millions of students across India. Here's how:
No more “one-exam-decides-all” pressure. Students can focus better and perform with confidence.
Didn't score well the first time? No worries. Take the second attempt and aim higher.
It encourages continuous learning and discourages rote memorization.
This is a major step towards executing student-centric reforms under NEP 2020.
“This will transform the board exam culture in India. Students will now have room to breathe and grow.”
— Education Policy Analyst, PolyEyes Panel
“A second chance is not just a policy—it's a path to self-confidence and improvement.”
— School Principal, Delhi
