The Indian Education System has struggled for a long time. There are constant efforts to make the system more efficient & flexible and to improve the home-grown institutions. While India is a country with a pool of talents, as we have the instances with Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadela, Shantanu Narayen among many others, still somehow, they are nurtured by the foreign institutions like Wharton School of University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, University of California, etc. As India, by 2030, is all set to become the one of the youngest nations in the world, an estimated count of 140 million is said to be, that they would fall in the college age group. The question is whether India would live up to it’s expectations and aims of delivering a world-class higher education system.

Some Statistics

According to the findings and rankings by the QS World University Rankings, in the year 2015-16, only 2 Indian Universities were featured in the top 200. Also, among the top 700 spots, only 10 Indian Universities could make their places. Despite having really strong intentions, the Indian higher Education System still lags behind the World’s Best Universities. The Government of India is trying hard every fiscal year, to launch new schemes and initiatives that would give a push to the education systems and take it to the top.

Challenges faced

There are various challenges which is now currently faced by the education system in India. The primary issue lies with the shortage of teaching staffs and the shortage of quality in the existing ones. This happens because of the appeal of pushing other career options, for the students who are graduating and the retiring generation of the existing pedagogues result in an uneven student-teacher ratio. Also, cost-cutting in the areas of faculty members are all very common in the scenario. This issue results in the overall quality of education, as can be seen in many MBA Colleges in Delhi. Today, most of the unregulated colleges are profit-driven and thus cost-cutting comes into the picture.

How to Overcome

The more involvement of technology into education is making the old set of teachers & professors difficult to cope up with the advancements in education. This tends to decrease the quality in the learnings they provide due to the lack of knowledge as per the requirements in today’s world. The lack of knowledge coupled with the lack of teaching staffs are turning out to be a worrying situation. Thus, the existing teachers need to quickly adapt with the changing trends and upgrade themselves to the quality and quantity of knowledge required in today’s scenario for educating the candidates.

The aspiring and the existing teachers are advised to dedicate their time and resources for the Master of Education, M.Ed Course. This Master’s degree of education, provided by various universities, often includes the various majors like Curriculum, Counselling, School Psychology, Instruction and Administration. It is conferred by the educators to enhance and advance in their fields.

What more…

International Students are not coming to pursue higher education in India, which can be listed as another issue. The international learners not only bring in revenue, but also help in the growth of an university’s reputation as attractive, collaborative and reputable. Though India’s international student rate is lower than many countries providing quality education, this is something that as a nation, India is trying to change. There were only around 7000 international students in 2000/2001. A decade later the number grew up to 20,000 in 2012/13 but this rate is still lower than the international standards.

India will definitely grow and emerge as a high-quality Education nation, if we work as per the trends requirements with utmost dedication and proper utilization of resources provided by the Government of India. Let’s keep this hope alive.
