NEW DELHI: India's Chief Economic Adviser to the Finance Ministry, Raghuram Rajan was found best suited person to be appointed as the 23rd governor of the Reserve Bank of India.Rajan will held the office for a period of three years will be replacing D Subbarao, whose term ends in September 4.

Rajan's appointment at the boss of RBI comes at a time when the rupee has hit record lows and the regulator looking out of control to manage it as the baby steps taken by RBI don't seem to be working and its intermittent interventions provide only part-time relief.

Before joining with Government of India Rajan, who is an an IIT-IIM alumnus, worked as the Economic Counselor and Director of Research at the IMF. He has also taught at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago.

Rajan has also worked as the honorary economic adviser to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Rajan is an economist, who received his PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been credited with predicting the 2008 global financial crisis.
