IPL is the home to records and as this year the season happens right before the most coveted tournament in the cricket world, the Cricket World Cup. A lot of us will be glued to the TV to watch a host of records being made and others being broken. We have seen some of the most unknown faces become household names during the biggest T20 tournament, but there are a host of records that are either not known or completely forgotten by cricket experts. In this article, we look at those records, so without further ado, let's get to it:

Emerging Player Award by a non-Indian: Mustafizur Rahman

He emerged in the cricketing scene during 2015 against India, but his 2016 performance as an SRH bowler got him a lot of appreciation from the fan base. His bowling combination with Bhuvneshwar Kumar helped SRH win the IPL trophy in 2016. Mustafizur’s 17 wicket haul from 16 matches at 6.90 runs per over got him a lot of appreciation, and the award too.

Only Spinner to win the Purple Cap: Pragyan Ojha

Pragyan Ojha broke the norm and became the only spinner to win the Purple Cap in 2010. His 21-wicket haul from 16 matches at an economy of 6.5 and a strike rate of 15.48 got him a lot of praise. While the then defending champions Deccan Chargers finished at the third place, Ojha was considered pivotal in making his team reach the top 4. This also made him the only spinner to get the Purple Cap.

Uncapped Centurions: Manish Pandey and Paul Valthaty

The two won the accolade on different occasions, but they were the only two that did it uncapped. During 2009 IPL, RCB had won 5 out of 6 matches, and then Manish Pandey came on the crease who scored 114 off 73 balls which included 10 fours and 4 sixes helping RCB win the game by 12 runs.

During the third edition of IPL, Paul made 120* in 63 balls with 19 fours and 2 sixes, thus making him another uncapped cricketer to score a century in IPL.

Man of the Match in a losing effort: Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble isn't only the highest wicket-taker for India, but also the only bowler who led his team to the finals after being handed the captaincy mid-way during the second instalment of the tournament held in South Africa. It was this performance with figures of 4/16 where he took out Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Rohit Sharma, and Venugopal Rao that made him the man of the match during the finals despite losing the same.

Half Century and a hat-trick in the same match: Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh was able to set this record during the second season in South Africa, against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Durban. His bowling figures were 3/22 while he scored 50 off 34 balls which included 3 fours and 4 sixes as the team chased 145. Despite the effort, his team lost by 8 runs.
