Ground water is an essential capital as well as asset for the country as whole it has gone into the acute stress because of following reasons.

GREEN REVOLUTION: Areas of Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh  has the benefit of input intensive crops and much stress has resulted on the ground water because of over irrigation through tube wells.

RAPID URBANISATION: Rapid urbanization has resulted into stress off over the current cities because it is accumulating more than that of its potential and water is prime element  and essential need which had to bear the stress most.

AQUAFIER NOT RECHARGING: The boost to the construction activities in an un-sustainable way is big hindrance to rainwater to percolate into the ground, the loss of percolation intensity to ground water has laid to decrease in the reduction of ground water level.

INDUSTRIES: Boost to water intensive industries (beverages-mineral water, textile leather) has lead to the over consumption of water and as consequence one gain the decrease of the water level.

MEASURES TO CHECK GROUND WATER EXPLOITATION AND RECHARGE AQUAFIERS: Rain water harvesting, proper infrastructure keeping the provision of percolation of water into the ground.

DRIP AND SPRINKLE AGRICATION: This will help in increasing the production at less input.

“WELL OFF” CAN BE CHARGED: In urban areas “well off” can be charged higher rates this will help in minimizing the wastage.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME: Awareness drive with the help of local administration emphasizing on the judicial term of water.
