Bihar To Have Its Nuclear Power Plant At Rajauli

PATNA: Bihar is all set to have a Nuclear Power Plant at Rajauli in the hilly area of the Nawada district. According to the information available in the public domain suggests that as much as Four Nuclear Reactor will be constructed with capacity of producing 2800 MW Electricity in the State.Bihar Government has already identified an exact location with an area of 3000 Acres for setting up of first Nuclear Power Plant in the state.

According to the Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission of India,Dr. Ratan Kumar, a standing site selection committee of Nuclear Scientists will soon evaluate the location to make a Preliminary Report of the upcoming Nuclear Plant.

The Team of Nuclear Scientist will also check if all the necessary parameters can be met at Rajauli like availability of adequate water, seismic behavior, and tectonic activity below earth.

Rajauli has been chosen as place to construct the reactor because of its closeness to Dams at Dharajay and Fulwaria. As per initial estimates 28,032 hectare-meter (320 cusec) water is required for the function of upcoming nuclear power plant, out of which 14,016 hectare-meter (160 cusec) would be consumptive.

The Bihar government had formally requested the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) for construction of a 4×700 MW nuclear power project at Rajauli for which a team of NPCIL experts had visited the area for site selection way back in 2007 but then state
government expressed its inability to provide water for the project, the site could not be finalized.

The final decision about the location is yet to be taken by NPCL ,if they reject the Rajauli then state government has an alternative location in their mind at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur .
