India, Not So Happy This Year.

World Happiness Report 2017 published recently, India has been ranked at 122nd/155 countries which is 4 places below being ranked at 118th position in 2016.
World Happiness Index, 2017.

It is an annual report published since 2012 by Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), a global initiative of United Nations. 2017 report is 5th in the series.

International Happiness Day is marked on 20th March.  The first World Happiness Report was released on April 1, 2012 as a foundational text for the meeting and drew international attention as the world's first global happiness survey. The report outlined the state of world happiness, causes of happiness and misery, and policy implications highlighted by case studies. 

The report uses data from the Gallup World Poll. Each annual report is available to the public on the World Happiness Report website. The happiness rankings are based on 6 criteria namely: GDP per capita, Healthy years of life expectancy, Social support (As measured by having someone to count on in times of trouble), Trust (as measured by a perceived absence of corruption in government and business), Perceived freedom to make life decisions, and Generosity (as measured by recent donations).

Concluding Remark: Norway is ranked 1st followed by the Denmark, Iceland and Switzerland. Among BRICS group, Brazil was ranked at 22nd, Russia at 49th China at 79th and South Africa at 101. Central African Republic secured the least rankings, Burundi and Tanzania were ranked second last and third last nations respectively. Evidently “having a job” is an overwhelming factor contributing to Happiness. As per the survey, rising unemployment negatively affects everyone even those who are unemployed.
