The 2018 Lincoln MKX is easily one of the better SUVs currently on sale on the market. If you are shopping for an SUV, a luxury SUV to be more specific then you should just hold on a second have a look at the MKX because this one seriously means business. In this article, we shall give you a brief overview of the stylish 2018 MKX.

On the outside, the 2018 Lincoln MKX review makes known the handsome and beefy looking car. It has got nice curves and arches and overall it looks, what we what we would like to call, elegantly muscular. The MKX isn’t like a conventional hardcore boxy SUV but at the same, it isn’t drop dead gorgeous with lines and curves flowing all over it like most luxury SUVs today have. The overall external design pretty much balanced giving it a strong and commanding presence and also an upscale image. The MKX shares its platform with the Ford Edge but it’s the fairing on the outside that makes all the difference.

Up front you get the signature Lincoln split grills that merge with the wrap around LED headlights with the Lincoln badge sitting right in the front, between the chrome clad grills. Moving sideways, you can see a sleek line running across the waistline as it flows only to merge with the tail lights. The Lincoln moves on stunning 17-inch alloy wheels that just add to the flair of the car. On the rear, you have a rather radicle design element in the form of the brake light. The brake light runs across the entire rear of the car and so when you stomp on the brakes the entire element glows brightly just so the car behind you knows that he is following the Lincoln MKX.

Let’s talk about the powertrain now. The MKX is equipped with a 3.7-litre normally aspirated V6 engine that churns out a decent 303 horsepower. Shell out a $2000 more and Lincoln will fit in a 2.7-litre twin turbo V6 engine that will produce about 335 horsepower. With the standard 3.7-litre engine power is only sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The more powerful engine will also give you an all-wheel drive system but you still get the 8-speed auto box. The engine isn’t really punchy and the throttle is also slow to respond.

The gear shits too are lazy, something just what you would expect from a luxury SUV. Dab on the throttle and you literally feel the time that it takes to respond. The SUV doesn’t really offer the kind of confidence that you’d expect while making an overtaking maneuver. But the upside of the engine is that it is very, very quiet. You simply cannot hear the sound of the engine and it simply is very low on noise, vibration and harshness levels. Full marks to Lincoln and Ford in this area.

Hop on to the inside and you rather find a plush cabin. The materials used on the inside are pretty decent and levels of fit and finish are also good. Quality levels aren’t really as good as the German counterparts but you can still live with it. The MKX can accommodate up to 5 people. Up front, you do get a good amount of legroom and shoulder room but the low sloping roofline of the car results in limited headroom.

The seats are wrapped in leather and the quality of leather of offer improves as you climb up the trim levels. You can also opt for heated and ventilated seats and also get a 22-way power-adjustable multicontour massaging front seats. At the rear, however, you get reclining seats and only have the option of heating them. Additionally, you also get 37.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and once you fold down the 2nd row of seats you open up to 68.8 cubic feet of cargo volume.

The MKX is equipped with Ford’s upgraded SYNC 3 infotainment system. The system includes a 13 or 19 Revel audio system, HD radio, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a rear seat entertainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.

Safety driver assist systems include active park assist, lane keep assist, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, front parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring.

The Lincoln MKX is priced at $39035. At this price point, it does offer good value. It has got a good engine, it has got good space on the inside, it also has got good features and at the same time the MKX is a looker. All-in-all, the MKX is a great proposition and ticks almost all the boxes right. As stated earlier, if you’re hunting for a mid-size SUV, the Lincoln MKX is serious contender and certainly be on top of your list.
