London, July, 28: Britain's timeline were beautifully showcased with the typical style of Danny Boyle surprises and flair as London celebrated the return of the Olympic Games after 64 long years.

It was perfect what the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire director had promised to the world....unpredictable and inventive.

London known amongst the most historic cities kicked off the 27-million pound world's biggest sporting agglomerate with a cultural spectacle very unlike other opening ceremonies with a total cast count of 15,000.

The shoe started with 'Isles of Wonder' with the sound of the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe, prepared by the White chapel Foundry, entire Stadium was turned into the British countryside as ceremony commenced with 'Green and Pleasant', which included real farmyard animals.

It also showcased the special play celebrating the best of British, with the help of volunteer performers from the NHS.

In the special stadium, the cultural show was appreciated by some 80,000 people, including more than hundred fifty world leaders .

Among them were royals and more than 90 heads of state and the first lady of the USA Michelle Obama who is lead the American delegations while it was watched by an estimated audience of four billion on live television.

Danny Boyle, the Director of the London Olympic 2012 opening ceremony, took the Shakespeare inspired theme 'The Isle of Wonders' and gave it a brilliant touch.

So what you got was a stage that turned from the agricultural to the metropolitan, from old to the modern....all brought to life with some British whimsy by 15,000 performers, including dancing doctors, and real farmyard animals like chicken, cows, goats, dogs, sheep, horses,  and geese.

At 9 PM BST, London announced the beginning of the celebrations with sound of a 27-ton bell, the biggest harmonically tuned bell in the world forged at London's 442-year-old Whitechapel Bell Foundry.

Then unfolded the 'green and pleasant land' as described in William Blake's poem 'Jerusalem,' set to music.

The stage was decorated as meadow with livestock, a farmer plowing his field and a cricket match...even Britain's unpredictable rain! The dark side of England also came out in flashes but it was the spirit of nation that ruled large parts of the world that showcased.

Characters like 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Peter Pan' and a showdown between Voldemort, the villain of J K Rowling's 'Harry Potter' books, and a horde of flying magical nannies based on Mary Poppins thrilled the spectators.

Britain contribution to the world music is immense so there were songs by Beatles, 'The Who and The Sex Pistols' wafting through the stadium during the 90 minutes show. The final leg played by former Beatle Paul McCartney leading the audience in a sing-along of 'Hey Jude'.

On the other side of the eve, the British Queen was received by Jacques Rogge, President of International Olympic Committee. Then the march passes of 16,000 athletes and officials from across the world, passed through alphabetical order.

The smartly dressed Indian group, with men wearing yellow safas, navy blue blazer, cream colour trousers, off white shirts and ties and Women dressed in elegant sarees, was led by wrestler Sushil Kumar, and were warmly applauded by the crowd.

After the march pass, legendary athlete Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London organizing committee welcomed the players after which Rogge spoke.

The British Queen officially announced the games open setting the tone for the intense competition for models to follow over the next two weeks.

The Olympic flag was then brought in but the grand finale was the entrance of the Olympic Flame and the eve with which it was taken to the cauldron where it will burn bright for the duration of the global competitions.
