Patna, Dec, 23: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has praised the P Chidambaram’s opinion on the special category status for the Indian state.

He was speaking at a function organized by the Bihar Chamber of Commerce in Patna last week Nitish Kumar hoped that the recent remark of the Union finance minister would kindle a hope for Bihar to get special category status in coming time.

Praising Union Finance minister’s view that there is a requirement for review of the eligibility criteria for awarding the special category status to backward states like Bihar Nitish Kumar said the finance minister has used the same words as “we had done while making our plea to him. After days of struggle and campaign Union government has accepted the demand in principle.

P Chidambaram expressed these views in Upper house of parliament while replying to a question by JD(U) MP N K Singh that a backward state like Bihar cannot be left behind to fend for itself and that there is a need to change the laid down criterion for according special status.

Nitish Kumar sees a ray of hope in this statement of FM. He, however, said he would continue to agitate till Bihar gets the special status.
