Cloning has emerged as tool which has enough potential to counter the various diseases were the conventional medical therapy find helpless. Cloning is an asexual reproduction process in which exact genetic replica of an offspring can be produced.

In this process, Genetic material from single parent who donates material from his or her somatic or body cell is responsible for the production exact replica of donor.

The concept of cloning is based on that chromosome present in nucleus are equipped with basic technical knowhow to develop full adult organism. Therefore full adult of species can be raised by obtaining living cell of the particular organism.

To understand the basic concept of somatic cell nuclear transfer technology, some basic concept should be clear. Here below some important terms are being defined in order to make the reader understand the process of somatic cell nuclear transfer technology in a more effective manner.

Haploid: These are cell with half the usual number of chromosome such as Gametes which contains Sperm and Ovum having 23 chromosomes each.

Diploid: These are cells which have complete set of chromosome such as Somatic cell from human body containing complete set of 46 chromosomes.

Somatic Cell: These are body cells whose gens cannot pass to future generations.

Somatic cell nuclear transfer starts with the separation of nucleolus from the somatic cell which results in diploid cell. This diploid cell is fused with application mild electric sock with enucleated ovum which is obtained from ovum whose nucleus is previously removed. The fused cell so obtained has the capacity to go under mitosis cell division process. After 5 to 7 days this cell changes to blastocyst . Then the blastocyst is implanted into surrogate mother and allowed to go under embryoic development process completely. This finely results in the formation of new individual.

However, the human cloning is highly criticized by world community on the ethical ground and has been banned. Although therapeutic cloning is allowed. In therapeutic cloning artificial cells are being developed outside of the body. These days it is effectively used for skill grafting, curing Spinal Cord injury and heart disease.
