The global hoverboard market is expected to pass the $1.8 billion mark by 2021, due to increasing demand from buyers in Europe, America, and Asia-Pacific, according to TechSci Research. Given the widespread endorsement by celebrities, owning a self-balancing scooter is every child’s dream. In fact, Hoverboards are some of the most sought-after tech gadgets for kids around the world.

There are possibilities you might end up stealing the gadget from your child to experience some fun. However, before purchasing any hoverboard, understand how it works to ensure that you or your kid enjoy a safe and fun way to ride. Below are some essential tech features you should consider before purchasing a hoverboard.

Lifespan of Your Battery Pack

The battery is probably the most important aspect to consider because it determines how fast and far you can go on a hoverboard.  According to Hover Patrol, the further a self-balancing scooter can travel, the better. Therefore, look for a battery pack that guarantees more mileage on one charge. Although electric board models vary, most of them come fitted with 36 to 42 voltage Lithium-ion batteries.

Lithium-ion battery packs are lightweight and have a high energy density, which gives you more range and ability to ride on various terrain. They also discharge at a slow rate, but you must find out how like you will  need to charge your hoverboard. You want to be sure you can travel extended distances without running out of charge.

Safety Wheel Sensors

Each wheel on a self-balancing scooter is equipped with speed and tilt sensors that track revolutions per minute and tilt when your body moves. Ideally, the wheels rely on tech aspects to help riders balance safely on a hoverboard. For instance, when you move your right foot forward, your board will speed up forward automatically.

This is because two switches located below the footpad detect how your body moves on the hoverboard and send the data to the gyroscope and logic board. The motherboard then controls the tilting and acceleration based on how much you are leaning towards a certain direction.

Self-Balancing Tech with Gyroscopes

A hoverboard has two gyroscopes, which are responsible for the self-balancing technology. As mentioned earlier, gyroscopes receive speed and tilt information from wheel and motor sensors. It then processes and transfers the details to the logic board. It is important to note that hoverboards may act up if some features are out of sync with the gyroscopes. Fortunately, you can fix this problem by  calibrating your self-balancing scooter. This trick will reset your gyroscope to zero and enhance performance.

Another important feature is the logic board. It functions as the brain and controls everything from the wheels to the LED lights, speed, and power consumption. It has a microprocessor that sends and receives data from different sensors.

Processed information submitted to the wheels, for example, gives a command for the required movement and adjustments. As a result, users can enjoy a balanced and centred navigation when out on the road.
