The CSAT examination is the new form of Civil Services Preliminary (CSP)Examination by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is specifically covers the details of four sections named Comprehension, English Language Comprehension and Interpersonal Skills with Communication Skills, Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability.

This post is to guide the applicants on the Decision Making and Problem Solving,General Mental Ability and Basic Numerical aptitude for the preparations of CSAT.

The parenthesis of the CSP from a purely knowledge based exam to the present aptitude based examination (CSAT) reflects the urgent requirement to select the officials not just with a greater aptitude but also with the aptitude specific to civil services needed for the high profile job of Government in India.

If the applicant hand General Mental Ability continues with its time tested manner in the preliminary examination, we have Decision Making methodology which has crafted in a novel manner to check specific aptitude for the civil services. Basic numeracy, on the other hand, is a common aspect of each aptitude test that takes place now a day.

Decision-making and Problem-solving: This section measures the ability of an applicants to take a decision based on given set of conditions and context.

The questions will normally associated with the situations that required either to take some action, to explain why an action must be taken or infer what the action implies. This will also required a skill to observe the certain meaning between the lines and fine tuning the difference of a hint and the given assumption.Questions based on real life law & order context or administrative stalemate and the ethical and moral basis of decision making are an integral part of this test.

Questions are asked from the wide spectrum as it counts from basic reasoning issues to intricate case studies to know the abilities of the applicants to take a technically sound assessment under a proclivity to ethics.

Reasoning is the ability to correlate information and reach a technically correct close on the basis of rules.

Logic is the science of valid or right reasoning so the student must have to learn the rules of logic before we apply them to a particular spat, making it obligatory to understand the correct connotation of squabble and to understand the implied gist of that argument. In other words, accepting the obvious and the implied meanings of the sentences is the basic requisite for understanding the arguments properly.

In order to test such type of reasoning, different types of problems are designed by the experts. It is to check whether a particular applicant is able to not only argue properly but decipher any fallacies in wiles being presented. The faculty to argue, or rationalize is a positive and desirable quality, particularly in Indian Administrative Services officers, because they are required to take decisions which will affect the affect the lives of masses.
