The Holy River of India Ganges, above all is the river of the country, the story of this river, from her source to the sea, from old times to new, is the story of India’s civilization and culture, of the rise and fall of empires, of great and proud cities, of adventures of man.

River Ganga with its source in Himalaya is considered to be the most sacred river by Hindus.

The waters of Ganga is believed to be self cleansing in nature and it is said that a single dip in the waters of this holy river will wash away all the sins of a person!

Millions of Hindus take bath in the waters (Ganga Snan) of this river day in and out and millions more in a single day during festival seasons throughout the year.

Despite of all the activity there is no sign of contagious diseases spreading from person to person due to contact through the water of Ganga! Nor is there any sign of things like skin disorders etc after bathing in this river!

The lenghth of Ganga is 2524 kilometers long, which has been the lifeline of the entire stretch of the Ganga-Yamuna plains, with over 300 million people resides.

One of the proven facts as revealed by research scientists suggests that the water of Ganga contains millions of bacteriophage which consume pathogenic bacteria .

Bacteriophage is a virus , a parasite of bacteria , which is as small as 10,000 part of a cm in size and covered with a protein shell termed as capsid .

One of its amazing properties is that it is always present in the water of River and can survive for thousands or lakhs of years even without having food . Whenever any pathogenic or putrefying bacteria enter the water, the bacteriophage attack and destroy them . If one suffering from diseases drinks the water of holy Ganga , the friendly bacteriophage enter his body with the water and destroy the harmful bacteria . The patient starts recovering because of this effect.

The source of the bacteria named bacteriophage in Ganga It is not yet known , but they are found everywhere , right from the Gangotri from where in originates to the Sundarban delta where it merges in to sea .

The bacteriophage are destroyed by boiling. Therefore, the water of holy Ganga must not be boiled.
