The famous Kanha National Park is a combination of a national park and a Tiger Reserve situated in the beautiful place in the Mandla and Balaghat districts of India's heartland Madhya Pradesh.Great looking Satpura and Maikal mountain peaks nestle this magnificent Kanha National Park.It provides beautiful surroundings to the large spectrum of biodiversity in the National Park.

Kanha is a land of numerous species of flora and fauna and boasts of a vibrant natural vista in the Park. One of the main touch points of Kanha National Park is the endangered species of the Swamp Deer. Background:

The current Kanha National Park and Tiger reserves were first declared as a sanctuary way back in the year 1933. By a special statute in 1955, the Kanha Park came into existence. Since then, a series of stringent conservation programmes for the protection of its flora and fauna has given this park a must deserved reputation for being one of the finest and best administered National Parks in the world.

This highly reputed Kanha National Park achieved the status of a tiger reserve in the year 1974. It used to be a famous hunting spot of erstwhile rulers of adjoining area and British viceroys as well. It has become more famous after the success of ‘Jungle Book' written by the eminent writer Rudyard Kipling.

Kanha National Park provides morning and evening safari it is worth mentioning that evening safaris are generally cheaper than morning.

The lodge on the safari path accommodates a library with a wide collection of wildlife books, associated videos and contextual magazines as well.

The nature trails, walks in the village, bird watching, and primitive tribal dances at nights would be worth a watch in Kanha National Park.

Must Know:

The park is closed from July to September as the routes become slippery because of Monsoon season in India.

Best time For Visit

Post monsoon between Octobers to June is the optimum period for visiting Kanha Wildlife Park. December to February is particularly advised for spotting the Barasingha in the wilderness.

Where to Stay:

With respect to the other national parks in India, accommodation is expensive in Kanha. Most luxury cottages situated around the Kanha National Park cost Rs 5,000 - Rs 15,000 a day; however comfortable rooms would cost Rs 2,500 and little more at Kanha.

Many hotels offer jeep safari, bon fire, bird watching, trekking and tribal dance for their guests. Apart from that, regular services like car rental, doctors on call and laundry service are available at every hotel around the park.

Foreign exchange facilities are also available for the overseas tourists. Hotels usually have approved guides to take tourists for jungle walks.

The cities near the national park, Nainpur, Mandla and Seoni, offer most of the modern facilities like internet and sports clubs.

Where to Eat

The Baghira Log Huts: Located in the dense forest of Kanha National Park, this restaurant at Kisli provides tourists a fabulous chance to enjoy nature from a close quarter.
